The Jamaica Civil Service Mutual Thrift Society Ltd., ‘The Thrift’, as it is popularly called, is a product of the harsh economic realities, poor wages and horrendous working conditions which confronted public sector employees in the 1930s. It came into being and was registered on October 17, 1939 with 156 members.
From humble beginnings, ‘The Thrift’ has blazed an enviable trail over the past 8 decades while remaining faithful to its mission of fostering thrift, responsible borrowing and serving the financial needs of members. Today, ‘The Thrift’ stands as a respected financial services institution dedicated to helping public sector workers and government pensioners realise their financial goals.

Over its almost 8 decades, all the financial indicators of ‘The Thrift’ – Share Capital, Investments, Loans to Members, Interest Income, Expenditure, and Surplus have consistently been positive. In fact, ‘The Thrift’ has been able to pay dividends to members every single year since it was established in 1939.
